Job Description:

We are looking for a candidate that is engaged, enthusiastic, and committed to humane and compassionate care of animals. Animal Care Technicians clean, feed and water research animals housed in the Center for Animal Resources and Education (CARE). This position is also charged with checking animals' health status and completing daily work logs and health enrichment forms. Some weekend and holiday work required. Weekends are worked on a rotating basis, every 4 weeks. Availability and number of holidays to be worked is contingent upon staffing needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
• High School graduate or GED required or equivalent combination of education/experience
• AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level preferred
• 1-2 years' related experience working with animals preferred
• AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level is strongly encouraged within
the first year of employment

• Possess the ability to have meaningful and respectful two-way conversations.
• The person in this position frequently communicates with faculty who inquire about their research
animals. Must be able to exchange accurate information verbally and in writing.
• The ability to access and use email for communication and documentation.
• Requires attendance/completion of all mandated safety training and adherence to the animal care
occupational health and wellness policy.
• Involves working with a wide variety of animals and learning about the housing and care needs of each
species.
• Requires the ability to adapt to changes that occur with short notice.

Education and criminal background check required.
