Houston Public Schools has an immediate need for a Transportation and Grounds Director. This is a full-time, 12-month position.  Salary and benefits will follow the Confidential and Supervisorial Association's Master Agreement.


A valid Minnesota Class B commercial driver’s license with school bus (air brake and passenger) endorsement is required. 

 

TRANSPORTATION and GROUNDS DIRECTOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Plan, organize and direct the operations of the grounds and transportation departments.
  • Supervision and work direction of grounds and driver personnel to ensure the efficient and safe operation of school vehicles and grounds equipment.
  • Responsible for driving daily routes and planning field trip transportation.
  • Obtain accurate information related to the transportation needs of eligible students.
  • Develop the most efficient and effective routes to meet the transportation needs of eligible students.
  •  Select and assign appropriate routes, student pickups, etc. that take student safety into consideration.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety measures, best practices, State & Federal mandates.
  • Work with parents and district administrators to resolve routing problems.
  • Adapt and modify existing routes as required (e.g., new student enrollments, moves, etc.).
  • Quickly respond to and resolve parental inquires and/or concerns.
  • Monitor and appropriately respond to all bus radio calls.
  • Assign and acquaint (when necessary) drivers and paras, including substitutes, to routes.
  • Attend professional transportation meetings as assigned.
  • Be “On Call” for emergencies.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Help to purchase and maintain busses and vans.
  • Plan, organize and direct the operations of the grounds and transportation department..
  • Direct the hiring and orientation of new transportation and grounds staff and provide on-the-job training.

  • Ability to communicate positively with drivers, aides, secretaries, mechanics, administrators, parents, and the public.
  • Obtain and maintain a CDL Class B license with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements.
  • Maintain Minnesota School Bus Driver qualifications and licenses
