Director of Development & Donor Relations
Serving as a key member of the leadership team and reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, the Director of Development & Donor Relations will be a strategic, results-driven, creative, and innovative donor development, donor relationship, and advocacy professional. Key responsibilities include the development, implementation and direction of results-driven Journey fundraising strategies that will meaningfully engage and motivate donors in the attainment of fund development goals. This individual will be an ambassador for the organization and will build strong relationships with volunteers, donors, and community leaders. The position will be actively involved with the Journey Board of Directors, and other stakeholders. The Director of Development will oversee all JMHC fundraising strategies, eventually recruiting, directing, and managing a fundraising staff and volunteers to engage, solicit and secure donations through various fundraising activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL
- Bachelor's degree in a related field such as public relations, non-profit management, business, or marketing.
- Minimum of 3 years leadership experience in one of more of the following areas: fundraising, strategic marketing, communications or business development.
- Demonstrated experience and leadership in successfully advancing an organization’s fund development goals and objectives.
- Proven ability to build on marketing communication campaigns and incorporating fund development platforms and technologies to optimize fundraising results; ability to operate as an effective tactical and strategic thinker.
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring and coaching to build a strong and effective team of fundraising, communications staff and volunteers.
- Knowledge, experience and proven success in managing fundraising initiatives with demonstrated experience and competency in a minimum of three or more of the following areas:
- Grass Root Development
- Annual Campaigns
- Capital Campaigns
- Major Gifts
- Planned Giving
- Private Grants/Foundations
- Corporate Sponsorships
- Proven experience with strong ability to cultivate, solicit, and close gifts from current and prospective donors, with personal fundraising efforts that have produced multiple major gifts.
- Must work well in a team environment and possess the ability to perform tasks independently.
- A positive attitude and the ability to relate well to others of diverse backgrounds are essential.
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation communication skills.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, a favorable driving record, adequate insurance (per state law) and access to a vehicle.
PREFERRED
- Master’s degree in related field such as business, marketing or communications.
- 5-7 Years of experience in fundraising for a non-profit organization.

- Strong analytical skills with ability to investigate, uncover, analyze and translate data into meaningful, actionable information to create maximum impact. Prior knowledge and experience with CRM tools and fundraising platforms.
- Established contacts or network within the Dane County community.
- Self-starter; self-directed, results-oriented problem solver.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Fundraising, Strategic Marketing Communications Leadership
- Partner with the CEO, COO, and Board of Directors to plan, execute, evaluate and direct cost-effective, results-oriented strategies for donor cultivation (existing and prospective)and solicitation.
- Provide strategic leadership, planning and oversight for all aspects of the organization’s fundraising/donor development activities aligned with JMHC’s vision, mission and values and the strategic plan.
- Participate as a member of the leadership team to develop the strategic and operational plans including development and management of the fundraising budget.
- Develop and oversee donor engagement/fundraising events and promotions in concert with annual goals and objectives.
- In collaboration with executive leadership, develop and cultivate the organization’s donor base through the annual development, execution, and attainment of goals and objectives.
- Provide critical analysis and thinking of donor base data elements to plan, execute and optimize strategies to enhance donor giving (individual, foundational, corporate, et al).
- Recommend various tools and resources to advance fund development infrastructure
- Personally participate in fundraising efforts to cultivate, solicit, close and steward gifts from current and prospective donors, with an emphasis on major gifts.
- Oversee organizational communications with current and prospective donors through appeals, letters, newsletters, publications, website, social media, and all other organizational communications efforts.
- Provide leadership of the organization’s donor relations efforts through the engagement and/or leadership in related committees and work groups.
- Gauge progress toward goals with quarterly and annual reporting; set performance objectives and metrics; monitor and provide periodic progress reports to COO and senior leadership.
B. Supervision
- Manage all aspects of departmental staff as it grows, including training, recruiting, hiring, coaching, mentoring and career development.
- Volunteer recruitment and management.
