Job Description:
Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the Head Athletic Trainer (GA021). The successful candidate will be responsible for working with the Associate Athletics Director for Health, Wellness, and Performance in the development of the overall sports medicine program including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, treatment, rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling of student-athletes. This position will oversee the day-to-day operation of the athletic training room including supervising full-time assistant athletic trainers, and coverage of athletic events home and away. The Head Athletic Trainer will be responsible for all medical care and coverage for the men's basketball team.

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. The anticipated start date for the position is July 10, 2023. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.

- Oversee the day to day of the athletic training room
- Evaluation/treatment of injury/illness to Longwood student-athletes
- Provide emergency medical coverage during athletic events/practices/travel for teams
- Refer injured/ill athletes to team physicians/consultants regarding injuries/illnesses/care
- Communicate effectively with coaches, support staff, and student-athletes alike regarding injuries and playing status
- Communicate effectively with team physicians
- Counseling/advising student-athletes and coaches regarding health, conditioning, illness or injury
- Maintain medical/administrative records
- Apply appropriate protective padding/braces/strapping/other orthotic devices
- Design/modify appropriate individual rehabilitation of post-surgical/post-injury conditions
- Organize coverage for athletic events and camps
- Assist with inventory and supply ordering
- Primary sports coverage for men's basketball
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in related human performance field preferred or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent training and work experience
- Eligibility for a Virginia Driver's License required
- BOC certification as an Athletic Trainer
- Must meet Longwood University criteria for driving institution-owned vehicles
- Experience as an athletic trainer with men's basketball
- Division I intercollegiate athletics experience preferred
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations preferred
