Essential Functions: Provides hands-on, species-specific animal husbandry training to personnel consistent with business needs, institutional practices and standards, and regulatory requirements. Develops educational training materials across a variety of mediums. Performs daily husbandry and acts as a point person when issues arise within the husbandry staff. Maintains and files facilities husbandry paperwork and helps with animal census tracking. Job Duties include: • Trains personnel on Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) changes and documentation practices, including hands-on and best practices for skill and knowledge verification assessments for husbandry staff, and other personnel; performs annual and refresher training sessions for all staff; documents completes, and submits appropriate paperwork of trainings. • Onboards, or assist with onboarding, of all new husbandry; develops initial training schedules and presents information on each species. • Develops training materials, and revises and maintains animal husbandry training materials in conjunction with program needs and regulations for multiple training mediums, including instructor-led, computer-based, and other interactive methods. • Holds AM meetings with the husbandry staff to organize the day. • Creates and files monthly husbandry paperwork. • Acts as a point person for husbandry on the floor or when the supervisor is unavailable. • Enters census data into animal tracking software.
Physical Effort: The employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time for the majority of the workday lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds including, but not limited to, caging and equipment, and bags or boxes of animal diet and animal bedding operate flatbed hand trucks or pallet jacks to push/pull heavier objects or weights exceeding 50 pounds perform repetitive motion tasks that involve pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching, bending, and/or getting up and down off of the floor physically handle and restrain a variety of small and large laboratory animals negotiate and navigate around animal facility caging, equipment, and the physical plant.
