Director of Development, Leadership Annual Giving - VUMC Development HYBRID
Reporting to the Executive Director of Donor Growth and Engagement, the Leadership Annual Giving Officer (LAGO) plays a critical role in increasing both unrestricted giving and donors recognized in the Canby Robinson Society, VUMC's leadership donor giving society. The LAGO is a frontline fundraiser focusing on mid-level and leadership annual gifts ($1,000-$25,000), contacting donors each day to engage, retain, renew, or upgrade their support.
The LAGO will collaborate with colleagues across all teams to grow this important donor group, identify new prospective donors, and support major gift pipeline development. They will help build a flourishing Canby Robinson Society by developing donor relationships and complementing direct marketing efforts with personal attention and solicitation.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute donor facing activities with an emphasis on increasing the number of donors making leadership annual gifts and identifying those capable of making major gifts.
- Actively manage a portfolio of 200+ prospects.
- Conduct donor calls, personal visits, and other personal and individualized contacts.
- Ensure successful gift solicitation of key prospects by making multiple personal solicitations annually, as determined by annual planning.
- Make strategic handoffs of prospects at all levels to other gift officers, in collaboration with the analytics and strategic initiatives team and the major gift team.
- Assist in the development of short and long-range leadership annual giving program planning.
- Actively contribute to the growth of the leadership annual giving program.
Qualifications, Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) (Required)
- 3 years of experience (Required)
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job is preferred.
- Preferred experience in non-profit fundraising, health care advancement, and/or a related field development experience, including annual or membership campaigns is preferred.
- Demonstrated success engaging leaders and volunteer partners in the development of meaningful and productive relationships with prospects and donors.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Ability to convey commitment and passion for Vanderbilt University Medical Center while always representing the Medical Center in a professional manner.
- Experience making cold calls and personal, face-to-face solicitations.
- Ability to develop interpersonal relationships and collaborate effectively with multiple diverse constituencies.
- Ability to compose high-quality written communications, correspondence, reports, and other documents with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work on a team that emphasizes measurable objectives, including mutually agreed upon targets for fundraising goals. Competence in database utilization and a variety of software programs used to track solicitation efforts and results.
- Must take initiative, be personally accountable for work, and be a problem solver.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable. Ability to work well in high pressure/touch customer service situations and work well under deadlines while balancing multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Knowledge of industry best practices in a health care/other non-profit fundraising and annual giving.
